We’ve all been there. You wake up one morning and out of nowhere, you’re doubled up with excruciating back pain. But not only is it painful, it’s scary – it can be hard to know how serious the pain is when your spine is involved!

Firstly, when back pain comes on, the worst thing you can do is lay still and rest. In fact, this can often make the back pain last longer than it needs to.

However, our MCAP physios in Essendon & Brunswick have your back. Read on for an explainer on when you need a back pain Physio.

What kind of back pain do you treat?

  • Facet joint sprains
  • Disc bulges/herniations
  • Muscular pain in the middle or the side of the back
  • SI joint pain
  • Muscle strains

Do I need to get an Xray or MRI before I come for back pain Physio?

No. With most back pain, there is no need for a scan. However, if your MCAP Physio thinks you may need one, we can discuss this with you.

What kind of treatment can you do for my back?

This changes depending on the type of back problem you have. Fortunately, our physios complete in-depth assessments that are very specific for you. This means you’ll get the perfect blend of hands on therapy and exercise rehabilitation, with use of our excellent gym facilities at both Essendon & Brunswick clinics. Treatments our physios perform include:

  • Soft tissue massage / Active Release Techniques
  • Dry Needling
  • Joint mobilisations
  • Pilates-type core strength work as a small component of a holistic home exercise program
  • Education around how to prevent future episodes of back pain
  • Return to sport high level exercise rehabilitation

For a physio that doesn’t treat just the symptoms,  but targets the cause.
