Developing both strength, balance and the skill of lateral movement used in change of direction on team sport is vital to practice. Not only developing the strength, control in the hips, back and connective tissue in the knee and single but actually practicing the technique of how best to change direction fast. At MCAP we have had experience in many sports including NFL and soccer which provide further insights to teach these aspiring Australian Rules footballers. Cross pollinating ideas from different sports at a world level provides our athletes with world class learning in a world class facility. Nothing beats athletic development. In this clip Ryan is revealing the impact of technical changes in his sprinting mechanics. Specifically Ryan is focusing on consistency in dorsi flexion (lifting toe up) during the flight phase of the leg. This assists in reducing ground contact time and increasing flight time. Practicing constantly refining mechanics with both coach and athlete input can result in gradual speed improvement.
